Adult Squad

Introduction

There are three levels of adult squad that train together: Beginner, intermediate and advanced. To do adult squad swimmers should ideally be able to swim 50m freestyle laps on a 70 second repeat time or quicker. More information on adult squads can also be found on the adult squad information tab on this website.

Session procedures

It is important to coach the adult squad and not just be a spectator coach. Getting involved with the squad and providing feedback will go a long way with the group and make the session more enjoyable for coaches and swimmers.

At the start of the session swimmers may sometimes get distracted by chatting. While some catch up is okay it may be necessary to let the swimmers know that the session will be starting in 60 seconds or a few minutes.

Please follow the session procedures as described on that tab in the coaches portal. Swimmers in lane 1 may need to start with fins on and many adult swimmers in this lane automatically put them on to help them loosen their shoulders effectively. The adult squad will typically need a warmup that is around 1K or over.

Though adults are there because they want to be it is still important that they are challenged by the session and coaches should aim to get swimmers out of their comfort zone. Please be aware that it is also important that adult swimmers are not pushed beyond their abilities as this can increase the risk of injury.

During the session please outline each set and explain it to swimmers. Check if there are any questions before beginning each set. Some swimmers may need to self modify the set. this is generally okay.

Competition

Many of the adult squad swimmers compete in a variety of competitions including swimming carnivals and open water events. If swimmers are interested in getting involved in competition they can be directed to the Blue Mountains Phoenix masters club. The link for this club is on this website under the squad information/links tab. Additionally there will probably be a masters swimming rep doing the squad session such as Sue Wiles they can talk to.

Payments

There are two ways for swimmers to pay for adult squad training: Regular term payment or purchasing a 10 visit card. The term payment is best for swimmers who do two or more sessions regularly each week. The 10 visit card is best for swimmers that only train once a week or on a casual basis.

10 Visit Punch Card

Some adult swimmers will have a 10 visit punch card. Swimmers who use this punch card method can be found by viewing the adult squad enrolments on the google drive folder.

To purchase a 10 visit card adults need to fill out an order form on this website. From this adults will be send an invoice via email. Adult swimmers can print out the invoice receipt and bring it in to receive a card, however if an adult swimmer tells you they have paid the invoice and forgot the receipt that is fine.

At the beginning or end of the session please ask swimmers if they have a punch card you can clip. Hole clippers are usually found next to the whiteboards. If a hole clipper is needed please let Corin know.
