Assistant Swimming Coach
Job Position/Outline
There are numerous assistant coaching positions in the Mountain Swim team. They are at Katoomba, Springwood and Glenbrook leisure centers. Below outlines the role of assistant coaches.
Description
In this position the coach will have the opportunity to work with a team of athletes and develop their swimming ability. the swimmers the coach will be working with can range from different ages depending on the squad level the coach is working with. Typically the assistant coaches are helping senior coaches with mini, bronze squads though may also be taking adult squads and some Silver and Performance squad sessions.
Training and support
Assistant coaches will work with a senior coach to develop and run the program. Initially coaches can follow a program however as their experience and confidence grows opportunity to run their own programs and sessions will be available. When coaches first begin they will be able to do some shadow coaching at any of the centers with different coaches to gain experience if they wish. We can organise our local swimming development officer to come in and work with the coach on a regular basis providing advice and mentoring.
Responsibilities
Assistant coaches have the following responsibilities:
- Coaching swimmers with the aid of a swimming program.
- Once experienced enough: Creating swimming programs for their squads that develop competitive swimmers. Coaches need to have programs pre-written before each session they are coaching at.
- Coaching squad sessions as per their roster.
- Progressing swimmers through squad levels when they are ready.
- Working with head coaches to develop swimming teams.
- Attending club nights and some targeted swimming carnivals.
- Coaching swimmers with the aid of a swimming program.

Qualifications
Assistant coaches needs the following qualifications and memberships:
- Senior First Aid (incl. C.P.R.)
- Working with Children Check
- Coaching qualification
- Driver license
- A.S.C.T.A. Membership
It may be possible for coaching qualifications to be acquired during the first few weeks of starting as a coach. If this is the case the new coach will be working beside another coach to become familiar with the swimmers and program until they are qualified.
The coach is responsible for keeping all qualifications up to date and needs to submit any updates to their qualifications upon completion.

- Must be able to effectively and positively communicate with parents.
The coach should already have a modest level of computer skills. Mountain swim uses gmail, google drive and other programs.
In order to be successful as a assistant coach the coach needs to have the following skill sets:

Availability
Depending on the location the coach will likely need to be available for Mini and Bronze squads. For consistency the coach should be available for all the sessions where possible.
Wages
This position is a casual position.
Wages start at $27/hour. Wages are paid fortnightly. Wages are for timetabled coaching hours.
Advancement
Wages can be reviewed based on performance, duration of coaching, qualifications.
