Japan Swiming Camp 2023
At the moment we are seeking interest to run a swimming camp and tour of Japan in 2023.
This trip would be broken into two parts. A swimming camp for swimmers, coaches and team managers, alongside a Japan tour for swimmers and families. This structure is being created from prior experience with running a Japan trip. The idea is to give parents (and younger siblings) an opportunity to come along for a portion of the trip while still allowing for swimmers to have the independence, experiences and development that a swimming camp like this creates. Details can be found below: |
Japan Swimming Camp
This component of the trip is aiming at giving swimmers an opportunity to train and build relationships with other swimmers from Japan.
The camp would run for around 4-5days. We are looking at going to Osaka and surrounding regions. Swimmers would need to be at a minimum of silver squad level and this is primarily for teenagers over 12. Please be aware we need an age cap on this kind of event and there are plans to host additional similar camps in the future for those too young for this one. Swimmers will be training in highly disciplined squads and need to be able to swim at these levels confidently. The ideal numbers would be around 12-20 swimmers. Two or three coaches, one team manager per 6-8 swimmers. Minimum numbers would be 12 swimmers and two team managers. We would be staying in Japanese family or dorm/camp style accommodation. Meals would be provided for. During the swimming camp any families coming over at the same time would be free to do their own thing and explore Japan (maybe child free!). This portion of the trip is aiming at making sure the swimmers experience a trip with their team mates and would be separate from a family vacation. |
Japan Tour
This part of the trip aims at exploring the culture of Japan and is open for families to attend. During the tour the swimming team would still be staying together which is an important component of the trip.
The tour would run for 3 or 4 days.
Each day the swimming team would meet up in the morning with any families interested in joining to explore and do events in Japan.
All events, meals and activities would be provided for.
Families that wish to join the team for these events will still need to organise their own flights and accommodation. Depending on numbers it may be possible to coordinate flights and accommodation with the swimming team.
Example events (that we have done before) would be a day trip to Kyoto, visiting Japanese castles, going to theme parks, traditional theatre, noodle making, samurai experiences and more!

Dates and Costs
The estimated cost for the trip would vary depending on the dates. There is a cost for the complete swimming camp as well as just the final tour.
Date 1: The second week of May 2023. (current preferred date) This is an ideal date for travelling to Japan. Costs are lower, cherry blossom season is just ending. Japan is just finishing a series of holidays so accommodation and activities are often easier to organise. The main drawback is it is during school days. Estimated cost: Camp (incl. tour)- $3500 Tour- $500 Date 2: July school holidays. Weather will be hotter during this time. The costs will also be higher during the school holidays and many activities and events will be harder to manage. Estimated cost: Camp (incl. tour)- $4100 Tour- $600 Date 3: October School holidays. A great way to kick of the summer swimming season. The costs will be a little bit higher though weather can be comfortable. This date can be harder to manage for swimmers in senior years of high school as they have exams coming up. Estimated cost: Camp (incl. tour)- $4100 Tour- $600 |
